General Availability of VMware ESX 4.0 Patch

VMware is pleased to inform you that a new VMware ESX 4.0 Patch is available as of March 30, 2012.

Improvements and issues resolved in this patch:
• Fixes a situation with an ESX host generating excessive Reverse Address Resolution Protocol (RARP) packets when virtual machines join or leave multicast groups.
• Fixes a failure with hostd when you use an ESX host for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) deployment that can cause the ESX host to become unresponsive.
• Update the service console OpenSSL RPM to version 0.9.8e.12.el5_5.7 to resolve multiple security issues.
• Updates NSPR to version nspr-4.8.8-1.8214.vmw and NSS to version nss-3.12.10-4.8215.vmw. This renders all SSL certificates signed by the fraudulent CA as not trusted for all uses.
• Updates the ESX service console kernel to kernel-400.2.6.18-238.4.11.591731 to resolve multiple security issues.
• Updates the ESX service console python and python-libs RPMs to versions python-2.4.3-44.el5 and python-libs-2.4.3-44.el5 respectively to resolve multiple security issues.
• Updates the ESX service console Curl RPM to version 7.15.5-9.el5_6.3 to resolve a security issue.
• Updates the ESX service console Samba packages to the following versions to resolve multiple security issues in the Samba client.
• Updates the tzdata package to version tzdata_2011h-2.8024.vmw.x86_64 to address the changes in daylight saving time (DST) for Newfoundland, Labrador, and the Russian Federation.
• Resolves an issue where due to a buffer overflow in the VMXNET3 inbox driver, Linux virtual machines that use the VMXNET3 virtual adapter might experience a loss of network connectivity.
